Scream Analysis - Miss Frisenda

Cinematography is used in thriller films so that we can get a variety of different shots to make the film attract more of an audience and give them a good view of the storyline.
We first get a view of the phone which makes us know someone is calling, this extreme close up is used quiet a lot to show in more depth to the audience what is going on. With the extreme close up of the phone to the close up of her face on the phone shows us that we are supposed to be interested in what's happening on the phone. The camera stays in the same position, to show that nothing is happening once the phone has been put down up until the phone rings again. As the actress walks away from the camera we start to see more of her body and the transition of a close up to a mid shot. The fast movement of shots from the actress to the phone which is ringing again shows us that something is wierd about the situation she is in. Once again sticking to a mid shot of her on the phone shows us exactly what is happening in the scene, which is just her on the phone rather than getting us distracted with something that is happening in the background. The panning shot which shows the background changing from the bookcase and having the patio doors in the shot, makes us think that it may be involved in the climax. Once the phone is put down once again the camera stays in exactly the same slanted shot, which may imply that something isn't right and telling us something might happen. We see the actress moving out of the camera shot and still see her walking off in the reflection of the patio doors.
The slow panning shot of the dark tree in the shade moving to the back of the house with the swing moving in the background, attracts the audience as we are waiting for something to shock us. Also the swing moving is a scary sight especially with the back of the house and the light coming out.
The quick change from the back of the house to the extreme close up of the hob with the flame coming out straight away, this is an enigma because its a sense of danger which is being inflicted on the audience.
With the phone ringing again the mid shot of her moving around the island in her kitchen and coming towad the camera we start to notice the surroundings. With a knife holder on the table. This again is an enigma that something to do with a knife may be the climax. As she is walking around the table the shot never once gets the knives out of the picture. This may show that they may become relevant in the near future.
With the mid shot focusing on her and her popcorn we see her move towards the table and lean near the knives. For 10 seconds we see her leaning in the same position with a deadly weapon next door to her. As she flirts on the phone and starts playing with the knife the camera quickly moves to the other hazard which is the fire on the hob.
At the beginning of the clip there were lots of mid shots which didn't show a lot of the surroundings, but now we are seeing more of the surroundings when she is on the phone which could mean that we have to start noticing what's happening around her for the climax to begin and for us to see what is going to happen, this also lets us see what she is wearing which all seems to be pastels which shows she's innocent and the victim.
The camera is then following her as she walks down the hall, this may show that she doesn't actually know what's going to happen, and everything that is happening is behind her back so she is unaware of the events taking place. The camera is always very central in a mid shot. It rarely changes and lets you see exactly what she's doing and a tiny bit of her surroundings. With her face covered by her hair we don't see her facial expressions.
Once the creepy man on the phone says ' i want to know who im looking at' the camera zooms into her face and we see how she reacts. The camera then focuses from outside the patio doors at her face. This shows that she is looking outside the window trying to see if anyone is out there.
The shot of the garden with the steam seems quite spooky to us, as steam may be used to distort the reality of what is actually happening we don't know whether thats normal or not.
The close up of her locking the door, shows us that she's now getting worried and she is scared. This happens when she is fast to lock the door and gets worried on the phone.
The popcorn pack which is still on the hob which looks done and sounds fairly scary, gets a close up, this lets us know that the popcorn is probably done and as the noise isn't a very appealing noise and sounds more like something bad is going to happen.
The screen shots are still very slow and basic as a mid shot. This lets us see her facial expressions and what's happening in the background as we are expecting something to happen in the climax.
The lighting still seems to be quiet dark which shows the low key lighting coming from the kitchen.
The close up of her on the phone shows how she really is scared, and with her walking backwards shows that its not normal and that she worried.
The long shot of her locking the door while rushing again shows she's nervous and she's trying to be as quick as she can to lock all of the doors. The close up of the top of her head shows she's stopped panicking as she looks out of the window. We see that no one is outside which is a convention as the antagonist has a hidden identity.
The long shot of her walking away from the door shows us her feelings from her body language. The slow creeping camera which comes closer as she's on the phone shows us he's in no rush to hurt her. As she walks down the stairs and the camera is in a higher position we finally get the feeling that he is in a more powerful position as he has stated he's not afraid to hurt her. The long shot of the front door with the low key lighting from the wall lights inside the house let us know that there isn't anyone at the door so the doorbell ringing must of been someone who wasn't there to show his identity.
As we find out the antagonist knows her boyfriends name the camera again does the usual zoom in of her face. This shows us that she is scared and shocked that this is happening to her.
As the camera moves for us to see her turning the patio lights on as instructed, hiding most of her face as she's facing the side, we starts to think that she now is all alone and has no way to battle this villain.

Character Representation Post

Explain why it is important to have a variety of characters and various representations within a thriller film?
With the different characters you have many different personalities which all come together and make the story complicated or make it more scary. Having various characters playing different roles, it can misguide the audience to think that someone else had done the incident. This makes them get shocked when the real suspect is found out. Leading them to like the story more and tell people about the film.

The Village
There is an unstable character which is a convention of thriller films as they have problems so it adds more problems to the film which takes you offguard as you dont know whats going to happen with them as there spontaneous. Like in the opening scene when he starts laughing when noone else is laughing, we notice he then has a problem especially as he is scruffier than anyone else. As he is one of the first characters which is recognised in the film, it shows that he is going to be a main character and we should look out for him and see whats going to happen.
There are alot of children in the film which conteract the problems which they may face in the film. Children show innoncence which  shows they are going against the conventions of a thriller film. This may attract more people to see the film as they cant predict whats going to happen. This makes the audience shocked about what starts to happen in the film itself.
The women are at the front of the house sweeping while dancing. This shows that they are playful, and having fun. Which again goes against the conventions as you dont normally get alot of fun in a thriller film.
After the red rose is found in the corner of the decking and we realise that it is a problem from their faces and how they picked it up and buried it, we start to think what could actually be wrong with the rose being there. As the rose is red we see that as fear as its a strong colour for thriller films. This goes with the conventions but maybe to let the audience know that something bad is going to happen.
With a hooded person and hes surrounded by fire we then realise that he is the villain in this film, with his hidden identity we dont know whats going to happen still. And as fire is surrounding him we think that fire could be his 'weapon' which he will use to hurt someone.

The Women In Black
At first we get 3 little girls playing together with their dolls, first we see this is unconventional as it looks innocent and like there doing nothing wrong. But when they both look towards the camera and all start to walk towards the windows, dropping their dolls and standing on them with no respect like they had seconds before. We wonder whats going on behind the camera. As they step out the window we dont understand whats happend until we watch the rest of the film which is how they grab their audience by wanting to watch the film. We want to know whats happend to the children as we feel sympathetic towards the children. After they jump out of the window and we see the shoulder of a person in black we realise that maybe that was the person that was telling them to jump out the window. This still makes us want to watch more of it as its an interesting start which isnt predictable aswell.

Perliminary Task

Our task for the perliminary task was a teacher talking to a student who ran out of the classroom. I think we had good editing skills with this piece which had very slick cuts from one camera shot to another.
If we could do this task again i would pick a better storyline which would be more interesting and would grab an audience straight away.
Although we didnt have very good acting skills we would improve how fast it would take and take more shots so we wouldnt have to retake them again. We also need to know first hand what the task is so we do it perfectly the first time round.
Although there are some bad points about our task i think we did quiet well and over all the 1 minute film is good. We all worked well as a group together and managed to make a good piece.

Production Roles

Research and define the main roles within a film production (camera operator, actors, sound technician, editors, film director, location manager, storyboard operator)

Camera Operator - A camera operator or cameraman is a professional operator of a film or video camera. They carry out the instructions from the director and using different camera shots make the film more interesting. 
Actors -  is a person who acts using speech, body language and movement. This could be interpreting a character or improvise the reactions of a character in a situation, in a dramatic or comic production and works in film, television, theatre, or radio in that capacity.
Sound Technician - is a specialist in a skilled trade that deals with the use of machinery and equipment for the recording, mixing and reproduction of sounds. 
Editors - is the process of selecting and preparing written, visual, audible and film media used to convey information through the processes of correction. He works with the footage and changes parts which need to be changed. They make the audience enjoy the film with the different shots that they make. He creatively puts the images and rolls of films together to tell the story.
Film Director - is a person who directs the actors and film crew in filmmaking. They control a film's artistic and dramatic aspects, while guiding the technical crew and actors.
the director presents the image which has been given to him from the film producer. He portrays their view onto the screen and controls what everyone does in the scene. He decides what everyone does in the film. They are responsible for turning the script into a series of shots. They decide what the audience should get from their experience. They are in charge of deciding who are the other extras in the film. They coordinate the actors moves and also may be involved in the writing, financing and editing of a film.
Location Manager - is responsible for the finding and securing locations to be used and coordinating the logistics involved for the production to successfully complete its necessary work. The location manager works closely with the director and the production designer to pick a perfect scene for the film to take place. They are also in charge for the responsibility of the public and the crew while filming.
