Opening Scene Narration
The first scene in our thriller film is a bungalow in Woodford Green, Essex. This is a good setting as in the dark it can be really spooky. As its detached it seems like a more deserted house which is a convention of a thriller movie.
Frame 1 a long shot of the bungalow with some lights on and a boy standing in the window ready to run. This shows his shadow in the window as there is low key lighting, this is also a convention of thriller films as we don't yet know whether he's the antagonist of the protagonist. This is conventional as the identity is hidden.
Frame 2 shows the person in the house running down the garden, with a contrast of shots we start to see who the boy is, and begin to think he's the victim as he's running and seems distressed. As the lighting begins to fade and there isnt alot of lighting at his destination, we begin to think that something bad is going to happen as when we think of darkness we normally relate that to spooky happenings. As we notice he is wearing a white top with black trousers and a red jumper. White shows us hes innocent which then again leads the audience to think that he is the victim in the thriller story. Red which connotes fear and blood, this could mean something could be happening which could put him in danger. The sound we hear as he is running down the garden is the boy breathing heavily. We will be adding non-diagetic music which will give the audience more of a feel to how he feels, and makes the audience have a connection with him and want him to be safe.
Frame 3 is a close up of the victims face, its hand held so you get the feeling that he is by himself. We see his face for the first time and get to know the boy. This will attach the audience to him and make them feel like they want to help him. This is the main part of the film as you want the audience to feel like they know the character and that they want to help him. As he is running fast we again notice that something isnt right and there probably is something going wrong for him. As he is running his breathe is cold so you see a stream of smoke coming from his mouth, this adds to the thriller, as this connotes fear.
Frame 4 shows us hes heading for the shed as he opens the door, we first are unsure about why he is going in there. Then as he sits we realise he's hiding from the Antagonist, which has a hidden identity as we have not seen the killer. He shows us with his body language how scared he is about what's going on. This makes the audience feel sorry for him and wants to help him. Still heavily breathing the lights start to flicker, which shows us something isn't right, the boy again feels more scared as it isnt
Frame number 4 is a close up of the victim opening the shed door to where he is going to hide from the unknown antagonist. The shed is very old and unstable showing that it wouldnt be a safe place to hide and it will not protect him from any danger. The victim's hand when opening the door will be very pale showing that he is in shock and fearful, it also refers to the hidden antagonist being a ghost. This shot will be slow paced, creating suspence and tension. The sound that will be heard will be diegetic sound of the high pitched creak of the door. There will also be added in non-diegetic sound which slowly builds up to create a sense of surprise when he finally opens the door.
Frame number 5 is a long shot showing the back of the victim. The lighting will be low key however it will not show the audience what is in the shed, this will create an element of imagination as they are then able to imagine what could be there. The music will be non-diegetic and slow. The victim will be searching for a safe place in the shed to stay. As he is so frightened he is still heavy breathing.
Frame number 6 is a close up at a low angle of the victim's feet walking through the shed. The lighting is low key and the sound is diegetic coming from the creaking of the floor boards. The shot lasts for a long time which will create suspence and will build suspence for the surprise action shot to come.
Frame number 7 is the a zooming in shot which zooms towards a dusty mirror in the shed which has 'I SPY' written on it. The shot zooms in until the shot is unfocused. The mirror is dusty and grey, and the lighting is low key. However there is some white light directly under the mirror which enables the audience to see the writing and also creates a supernatural effect.
There is then a blackout and a scream is heard, the shot then fades into Frame number 8, where a news voiceover is heard telling of a boy who was hung. The shot is then of the victim, torso downwards showing him hung next to a swing. The lighting is extremely low with small glances of the boys legs and shoes. The shot will end with a non-diegetic sound of a scream which will leave the audience shocked and still connected to the scene, wanting to know more.
Frame number 8 is a a screen that shows writing that reads '10 years later the smith family moved in', this suggests that there is more of a story to come and works as a cliffhanger. The sountrack will be punchy and jerky which will make the audience heart beat fast and make them expect a series of unfortunate events within the Smith's new famil

Iconography
The protagonist which is the young boy is going to where white, pale clothes which will show him to be vulnerable and innocent. The pale clothes will also show any blood or damage very clearly, showing his situation and making an audience feel sympathy towards him.
The young boy at the end of the sequence will wear a red jacket to show that he is in danger from the ghost of Tommy Smith. Red connotes danger and blood, giving the audience an idea of what is to come for the rest of the film.
The mother in the sequence will wear pale casual clothes to show she is oblivious to the ghostly happening and forces within her home. The pale clothing also connotes innocence and vulnerability, suggesting she may fins herself in danger in the rest of the film.
We chose to have a young boy in the end of the sequence as well because we felt that the two males could make a connection and the boy seems to be the re-carnation of the ghost.
Our group have chosen to use my Nan's house as it has an open plan garden which is vast and hides certain corners where figures could be lurking. The garden also has a shed in which we planned our opening to be set. A shed is a familiar place for most people so it will be relatable, causing the audience to feel more empathy as they could imagine the occurrences happening in their own shed. The shed also has no means of communication therefore the actors are seen to be vulnerable and in no position to be helped. The garden will also be very dark creating shadows. This is conventional to a thriller film as the victim's nearly always find themselves alone in situations, this makes the situation more frightening as they have to mentally ad physically experience it alone.

At first we were going to use sugar glass as when the rock goes through the glass and breaks, it would be scary as the antagonist isn't seen. But this idea changed as we found it hard to get the sugar glass and have it in the window for the rock to crash into it. Instead we used a mirror which we wrote 'i spy' on it which again would be just as scary as its in the same room which makes the mystery more unsettling for the audience. This is conventional for a thriller film because having the antagonist not being seen in the clip makes the audience wonder who it is and what their trying to do. If we had used the sugar glass and the rock then the mystery would equally be as appealing to the audience as it is conventional and would again keep the audience wanting to watch the rest of the film.

We are using low key lighting which comes from the house as its very conventional and means that the villain is more difficult to find and isn't as visible as it would be in the dark. This scares the audience as there could be something which they wouldn't expect to happen. Also with the light shining on his face and not on the rest of his body shows that he's the most important thing and the audience should focus on him. Although we have had some problems with the darkness being too dark which means the video isnt very visible.
